Most common failures caused by cold starts causing extensive damage and accidents are -- seized main bearings, scored cylinder liners, burst oil coolers, broken flexible oil, fuel, and air lines, seized transmissions and differentials; measures taken to assure efficient operation under severe conditions when outdoor storage is necessary are more economically incorporated in new vehicle; components to be included are enumerated; recommendations made relating to preparation prior and during operation of heavy duty automotive equipment in subzero temperature.
