Cabin pressurization tends to form bulges in fuselage skin between frames and stringers, and resulting wavy surface is liable to produce higher aerodynamic drag; flight test study, made to determine effect of pressurization on fuselage drag of Boeing 720 jetliner, is based on boundary-layer measurements, made by pitot-static rakes at several points of fuselage in pressurized and unpressurized conditions; analysis indicates that drag coefficient of fuselage is increased by 5% as result of pressurization.
