Results from several studies, conducted by North American Aviation, in area of flight controls associated with automatic landing systems; series servo concept has considerable merit in contrast to similar parallel servo mechanization; results of analytical and hardware tests with pilot-in-loop evaluation in area of system performance, failure transients, malfunction protection, and physical characteristics show that for autopilot functions and automatic landing systems series servo system mechanization is superior or equivalent to parallel servo.
