Effects of weather conditions on flight of conventional aircraft are described in general terms; gaps in current knowledge, particularly of atmospheric conditions, and difficulties of giving direction or advice to pilot as to what are limiting conditions are discussed; there are two different approaches to problem; first is to give pilot as much information as possible and let him make up his own mind whether to operate or not; second is to lay down what are worst conditions in which operation is permitted ("weather minima"); civil aviation operates on second approach; military grade pilots by skill, and adopt first approach with their most skillful pilots.
