Wind-tunnel research program has been designed to show effects on longitudinal stability and control of several configuration variables; results to date do not allow formulation of general design rules, but effects of several configuration variables have been noted to have prime influence on post-stall characteristics; increase in tail size, changes in location of fuselage-mounted engine nacelles, and reduced fuselage-forebody lift were found to have beneficial effect on static longitudinal stability at high angles of attack.
