It was found that mean percentage of road signs recorded by five subjects over course of 105 mi long car journey under optimal conditions was of order of 90% of signs passed; it was found that mean percentage of drivers recording road sign was 47% of those who passed it; on analyzing data for five signs, it was found that there was significant difference between percentage of drivers recording each one; this difference was postulated as being due to degree of urgency of information contained in each sign the more urgent the information, the higher the percentage of drivers recording the sign.
