Report on study made of time required by drivers to adapt to change in speed of progression from 27 to 33 mph and from 33 to 40 mph on 1-way urban arterial when drivers had no knowledge of change; it is believed that better adaptation could be obtained if information on changes in signal system were available to drivers; for three speeds of progression studied, drivers had neither completely adapted to change in progression speed from 27 to 33 mph after period of 2 mo nor to change from 33 to 40 mph after period of approximately 1 mo.
