Emission of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen from various engines with intakemanifold fuel injection systems was measured and compared with that of carburetor equipped engine; under steady running conditions, injection offers advantage of point by point adaptation of characteristics to obtain optimum exhaust conditions; fuel injection system is described for mechanically and electronically controlled injection; examples demonstrate that under various operating conditions system always meets carbon monoxide requirements of California Tests.
