BRM racing car project was initiated in 1945 by Automobile Developments Ltd and supported by British motor industry; engine was 1 1/2 liter V. 16 cyl supercharged unit required to give 400 bhp; work carried out by Rolls-Royce Ltd in design, building and development of supercharger is described together with problems of estimating power output of engine, based on method for calculating charge consumption; problems encountered in development of power unit, and experience gained are summarized.
