Whole-body human response to mechanical vibration was studied by U S Army Tank-Automotive Center and new criteria "absorbed power" developed through application of transfer functions; concept of "absorbed power" was tested by obtaining subjective responses for sensitivity and variability; experiments were designed to evaluate ability to discriminate different vibration inputs and to order their comfort or severity; results indicate that " absorbed power" correlates with subjective response in comfort measurement and is equally effective in any frequency and amplitude relationship.
