General American plans thorough testing of its 96-ft experimental unit with drop-center tank which has been put into service as " rolling laboratory" operating at different speeds over variety of roadbeds; car has no center sill; buff and draft forces are transmitted through tank which consists of 111-in. ID cylindrical sections at each end extending to inboard of bolsters; tank's center section consists of two 111-in. ID semicircular shells jointed by straight plates 50 1/2 in. high; height of center portion of tank is more than 13 ft; tank is 89 ft 4 7/8 in. between bend lines and 94 ft 3/8 in. inside heads.
