Possibility of further reducing weight of ships' hulls by use of high elastic steel without sacrifice of strength, rigidity and durability; steel in marine service should have definite durability which has not yet been absolutely demonstrated but is needed to supplement other qualities; with this as basis, effect of use of such steel in ships' structures will be developed; estimates presented of resulting change in income and operating costs.
