Analysis of air traffic control problems is based on research conducted at New York Airways and shows that advantage of VTOL air transportation is flexibility of service patterns that can be provided; service regularity must be achieved through improved navigation, air traffic control and approach facilities for flight operation in instrument meteorological conditions; operating experience with LF navigational aid and tests of various VTOL landing systems and techniques are reviewed and use of Air Traffic Control Beacon, communications and relationship of VTOL requirements is compared to fixed wing requirements; future development trends are suggested.
