When war ended, London and North Eastern Railway was faced with replacement of ships to carry on Harwich-Hook of Holland service now merged into Eastern Region of British Railways; Arnheim built by John Brown and Co, Clydebank, is larger than previous vessels, Vienna, Prague and Amsterdam; length oa 377 ft 6 in., breadth molded 52 ft, depth 27 ft, and gross tonnage 4891; fitted with two sets of single reduction geared turbines developing total of 8000 shp at 275 rpm.
