Tests on tracked vehicles carried out during World War II, resulted in changed designs of track shoes, but made no real contribution to mobility problems; recent research is concentrating on soil vehicle relationships; studies reported involved soil bearing capacities, vehicle design and weight, track width and length, slip and sinkage of soils, and grouser action; tests indicate that entirely new concepts must be considered to improve vehicle mobility.
