Propeller ice formations are artificially created aloft by means of outrigger which runs parallel to wing, 3 ft in front of one of airplane's two propellers; this is connected with water tank in plane's bomb bay; when plane reaches desired altitude, streams of water are projected from nozzles in outrigger to whirling propeller blades, which immediately become covered with ice; various de-icing solutions are then sprayed on blade surfaces and their effects recorded.
