Interplanetary capabilities between now and 1985 are assessed with emphasis on hardware which is available or will be available under Saturn-Apollo program, or with development of nuclear-rocket engine; manned planetary missions considered are flyby of Venus in 1975, flyby of Mars in 1978, both with crew of three, stopover mission to Mars in 1982, with surface excursion involving crew of eight and, finally, setting up of semi-permanent establishment on Mars; missions are supported with logistics supply system which operates between surface of Earth and orbit around Earth, and which is developed from Saturn V launch vehicle, referred to as MLV-3 vehicle.
