Paper attempts to appraise space program, immediate space objectives, and rocket capabilities of Soviet Union; based on recently disclosed amount of new information on its manned and unmanned space programs, it is possible to evaluate this effort and to determine success of these programs in meeting their objectives; analysis explains some of inconsistencies of Russian effort and casts considerable doubt on validity of moon race.
