Paper discusses materials, heat treatment, and stress levels of some of gears, used in John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works, Deere and Co; some of development test work is described which led to given selection in following cases, namely, development of X1022 steel for powershift transmission planetary gears, clash shifting collars and gears for John Deere 2010 industrial tractor, and development of final drive and sun pinion shaft for John Deere 2020 tractor; factors determining successful gear design such as stress levels, mounting, and lubrication are considered.
