Author and E. A. BLACKWOOD have made stress and deflection measurements on various types of track with capacity loads at service speeds during last 2 1/2 yr; paper puts forward extensions of "continuous elastic support theory" developed by author to account for observed phenomena at speed in solid rail; new applications of theory to account for rail joint effect; method for calculating joint stresses and deflections.
