Inertial navigation system which computes position of vehicle by keeping track of changes in velocity (with respect to inertial space) that have occurred since some initial alignment took place; several techniques are described and compared including synchro memory, optical autocollimation, self-leveling, gyrocompassing, and alignment from moving vehicle; transfer functions are developed for each alignment method, and trends in techniques are discussed.
