Series of tests designed to prove feasibility of technique of photographic azimuth determinations was conducted in Jan 1962 by AFCR L; B-57 aircraft equipped with flashing stroboscopic light was flown at night at altitudes of 35,000 ft between ground camera sites located at Homestead AFB, Vero Beach, Fla, and West End, Grand Bahama Island; 2 PC-1000 cameras with 1000 mm focal length and f/5 lens, located at each site, attempted to photograph flashing light on aircraft against background of stars; navigation was accomplished by directions from radar site in Miami, Fla area; test results are evaluated from standpoint of planning this kind of mission.
