System capable of determining range, range rate and direction to satellite from single or up to 3 separate ground stations simultaneously, and operable at either VHF or S-band; at S-band, it is capable of higher accuracy than at VHF, and range may be determined to 15 m rms, range rate to 0.1 m/sec rms, and direction to 0.1°; low-altitude perigee pass can be acquired in less than 10 sec; signal-processing techniques permit satellite transponder weighing less than 10 lb, radiating only 1 w of power; ground equipment is transportable.
