Automatic flight control system (AFCS) for A-7A fighter-attack aircraft is production version of prototype system, developed over 3 yr by Lear Siegler Inc; paper presents developmental philosophy that led to selection of final configuration, completely dual, fixed-gain control-augmentation system, using series hydraulic servos and with attitude, altitude, heading-hold, and heading-select capabilities; results of U S Navy flight evaluation in F-8D aircraft showing capabilities of system in providing improved airplane-handling qualities.
