United States Air Force jet cargo transport must be capable of landing under conditions of limited visibility; landing function without dependence on ground base systems is accomplished through vertical navigation computer; two step programmed let-down to predetermined longitude and latitude is concept of system; in favorable terrain let-downs and approaches are planned to 200 ft altitude; computer outputs can be used by flight director for manual pilot control and by automatic flight control system for automatic modes; system is designed for future improvements.
