Paper is limited to aircraft which generate substantial proportion of required lift by means of fixed wing; some, features of airfoils at high lift coefficients are discussed assuming that boundary-layer control (BLC), using suction or blowing or both, is effective in preventing separation even at very high angles of incidence; ground effects and how to minimize them; slip-stream effects and deflected thrust approach; conditions for flight at low speed and takeoff and landing distances that may be obtainable and some important variables on which these distances depend are considered.
