Attempt is made to establish present state of art in predicting periodic loads associated with finite-bladed rotors of VTOL aircraft, and review is given of number of research programs being conducted by Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory in subject area; it is concluded that, although significant advances are being made through development of high-speed digital computing machines, significant amount of basic aerodynamic research is required; specifically, it was recommended that basic research be undertaken to define possible effects of "curved flow field" and effects of dynamic stall and reverse flow on aerodynamic characteristics of airfoil sections.
