Spark plug and ignition system requirements evaluated for high altitude operation with standard compression ratio and typical " export" ratio using standard and high altitude carburetion; spark plugs at least one heat range hotter than normal can be used if vehicle is continuously driven beyond 5000 ft above sea level; since plug voltage requirements increase at road load conditions and flashover voltages decrease at higher altitudes, more frequent maintenance of plugs and ignition system is desirable in high altitudes; when engine adjusted for higher altitudes is driven at full throttle at sea level, preignition may result.
