Bismuth obtained from Chimkent Lead Plant (Soviet Union) contains 3.5% Pb, 0.1% Sb, 0.5% Ag, 0.15% Cu and others; Pb, Sb, and other impurities were removed in 10 to 20 min by passing chlorine through melt followed by treatment with iodine vapors which remove Ag and Cu; bismuth contents of 99.99% were obtained by this simple and reliable method with low reagents consumption.
