Examination of future trends in development of VTOL aircraft and their potential for civil transport operations; improvements which are applicable to all uses of aircraft include cruise speed increase, payload increase, and reduction in direct operating cost per hour; most important parameters in determination of operating cost of aircraft are first cost, utilization, and overhaul and maintenance costs; attempts must be made to minimize first and third and to miximize second; development of other forms of rotorcraft such as stopped or stowed rotor aircraft and convertible rotor aircraft; military and civil applications. 1 ref.
