General discussion and special analysis; inviscid supersonic nozzle flow of ideal dissociating gas is studied analytically; problems fall into two main regimes depending on degree of interaction between chemistry and thermodynamics; in strongly coupled, reaction-dominated regime transition from initial equilibrium to frozen or recombination-controlled flow encompasses four regions -- equilibrium, incipient-transition, rapid-transition, and recombination; for slightly dissociated, hypersonic case explicit solutions by asymptotic expansions are obtained to describe transition regions; behavior of recombination solution far downstream, with nozzle area approaching power law, is studied and necessary conditions for freezing are given.
