During past 15 years little progress has been made towards stage where welding may be considered as serious rival to riveting; vessels being built in Germany for Hamburg-American Line, in which electric welding is being extensively employed; electrode used is bare wire electrode; electric welding should engage serious attention of shipbuilders; tests carried out in British yards.
