Use of direct bridge control equipment for main propulsion machinery; pneumatic control was introduced by Westinghouse Brake and Signal Co in Britain, and diesel tug Flying Dipper is first vessel to use equipment; with this system ship can be controlled from any one of four bridge positions or arranged for engine room personnel to control ship from their end; suitable interlock features prevent mishandling of engine and gearbox.
