Performance trends are shown of 125-cc engines, developed by Yamaha Motor Co, Ltd, for motor cycles from 1954 to 1966; methods investigated for obtaining high outputs include increasing air intake passage diameter of carburetor, employing rotary disk intake valve, choosing high compression ratio, selecting best timing for intake valve and scavenging and exhaust ports, and improving exhaust system; problems involved in small two-cycle engine design, and development of separate and automatic lubrication system for two-cycle gasoline engines are described.
