Differences between segmented 120- and 156-in. motors and monolithic 260-in. motor are pointed out, prospective costs shown, and applications examined; various concepts and vehicle cost summary are analyzed showing that two applications stand out; in 50,000 to 100, 000-1b-in -orbit class, S-IVB boosted with 260-in. motor; same motor was applied in 1-million-1b-plus class, solid-assist "one-stage-to-orbit" concept; both configurations could accommodate range of payloads by varying thrust (length) or number of motors.
