Airborne Lightweight Optical Tracking System (ALOTS), developed by Nortronics Div for U S Air Force, operates on modified KC-135 jet transport at altitudes of 40,000 ft to provide film coverage of missile launch, staging, and re-entry; in ALOTS system, 200-in. focal length telescope coupled to television tracking system follows missile automatically, and is expected to yield resolution of less than 2 sec of arc on 70% of exposed frames; description of camera optics and operation of system.
