Requirements for protection of crews are investigated for long-duration, high-altitude mission above Van Allen Belt, and short-duration, low-altitude, polar mission below it; radiobiological tolerance criteria are considered, and criterion based on partial recovery of sustained somatic damage is examined for long-duration mission; radiation transport calculations are carried out to obtain biological doses due to various environmental components; results obtained are summarized.
