Discussion of extent to which power plants, power trains and propulsors limit speed of following types of ships -- 100-ton GEM (ground effect machines); 100-ton hydrofoil; 5000-ton CAB (captured air bubble); 5000 and 10,000-ton-displacement ships; it is shown that it is within state of art to provide machinery in next 10 yr or so which can markedly increase speed of ships; however, development work will be required to provide necessary prime movers, reduction gears, and propellers or pumps.
