It is suggested owner's consideration of any difference in ship design must essentially be concerned with effect of that difference on economics of operation throughout ship's life; this includes total balance of earning power (cargo capacity, port turn-round time, speed, days' availability per year), ammortized capital cost and operating costs; these aspects, and also some comparisons between diesel and turbine operation, are discussed. Before symposium organized by Brit Nuclear Energy Soc, Brit Nuclear Forum and Joint Panel on Nuclear Mar Propulsion.
