Investigation of effect, on same vessel, of varying position of machinery space with particular reference to weights and capacity; this is considered for open/closed shelter deck type vessel at 10, 000 tons dw and 16 knots service speed, with machinery and accommodation amidships, three-quarters or part aft, or completely aft; study also covers means by which efficiency may be improved by design, particularly with respect to cargo-handling.
