Method of statistical cost analysis that considers ship as single unit, and that uses generally available data, is shown to be useful for predicting repair requirements, and for establishing scheduled repair periodicity; data are for naval vessels, and applicability of procedure for commercial ships is discussed; intensity of inspections is also discussed, with suggestions for reducing inspections to reliability threshold that corresponds to maximum profitability.
