Development of fully regenerative-cooled 30-kw arcjet engine including summary of successful continuous 500-hr endurance test, is presented; d-c engine, using hydrogen propellant, operated satisfactorily at average measured thrust of 0.745 lb and demonstrated total impulse of 1.34 million lb-sec during described endurance test; electrothermal engine demonstrated performance of 55% in overall thruster efficiency at specific impulse of 1000 sec, resulting in 20% improvement in efficiency over radiation-cooled 30-kw arcjet engine developed during 1962.
