Propulsion Engine Test Cell at Rocket Test Facility, Arnold Center is described; discussion is concerned with tests of 16,000-lb-thrust engine, which was fired with combustion products removed by plant exhausters, and full-scale reaction control system rocket, which was fired with combustion products removed by chamber pumping systems only; chamber performance and operating experience are presented with respect to these tests; test firings of full-scale rocket engines at starting pressure altitudes above 350,000 ft in J-2A chamber demonstrated feasibility of space-system propulsion testing at near-space pressure and temperature conditions.
