Theory developed includes all major factors affecting boat performance to at least first-order approximations (sail areas, efficiencies, effective angles of attack, course directions, wind speeds, friction, wave, windage, rough water drags, keel, rudder, and hull induced drags and lift coefficients); driving force and leeway force equations are derived; results are given for different boat speeds for various winds and courses, etc; simplified rating expressions are compared with some race results.
