Paper reviews progress and transition of chassis lubrication from Ford Model T era to 1965 models; in 1961, Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury cars were equipped with sealed joints with polyurethane sliding seals; improved greases were specified, and 30,000 mi relubrication interval was recommended; in 1963, 36,000 mi relubrication period was adopted; and for 1965, while same relubrication period is specified, series of developments has made possible improved seals; experience made with 100,000 mi lubrication on Thunderbird forecasts permanently lubricated chassis.
