Characteristics of rocket and air-breathing engines are compared, and ultimate performance advantages conferred by latter shown; description of following air breathing engines, available at low, medium and high speeds -- pre-cooled turbojet, turbo rocket, ramjets, air scooping propulsion system, and reheated turbojets; realistic combinations of these engines in satellite boosting role are compared with ultimate system; future of air breathing and rocket propulsion for satellite boosting with recovery.
