Resistance tests on 5 models covering longitudinal center of buoyancy positions from 0.5% to 3.5%, length between perpendiculars forward of midships at load draft and 3 other conditions; propulsion experiments over same range of LCB position at load draft only, using 3 propellers of different diameter; up to speed-length ratio of 0.60 (12 knots for 400 ft ship) LCB position of 2 1/2% forward of midships is generally optimum; propulsion results generally confirm this; propulsive efficiency increases with increase in propeller diameter.
