Increased loading on cargo ship propellers, necessitated by greater speed and size of ships, has greatly increased risk of cavitation erosion damage; blade area ratios up to 70% are not unusual; possibilities of reproducing ship wake distributions in cavitation tunnel, influence of irregular flow on cavitation, importance of blade area ratio and profile shape, and scale effects are reported.
