Various methods for learning how traffic flow is affected by traffic control system; comparison of major types of coordinated traffic responsive systems; evaluation of immediate and long-term response; experience with Toronto pilot project indicates that full scale traffic signal control by means of large digital computer provides opportunities to evaluate and improve system response without need for extensive field surveys and large analytical staff.
