Analysis is restricted to cruise flight of vehicles of rectangular planform employing air pressure seal between ground and vehicle along 2 streamwise sides; variation of optimum rearward deflection angle of side jet pressure seal with speed for minimum overall power expenditure and maximum range is found; it is concluded that mixed propulsion system (jet deflection plus propeller(s)) is required; volume flow and fan pressure rise needed are calculated and maximum lift/drag ratio determined.
